A "social club for the bizarre at heart."

The Society of Syrynx

The Society is a collection of college undergraduates and grad students who have formed a "social club for the bizarre at heart." While its membership is in the twenties, the core group are variants who have been recruited by Dan Belvedere. The Society of Syrynx is made up mostly of people who want to have fun; they aren't world-threatening criminals, nor are they upright defenders of justice. They're college students looking for a good time.
The only exception to this rule is Dan Belvedere himself. As Syrynx, he provides whatever unstable leadership the group possesses. While attending Lancaster and having superhuman powers, he is not a variant. He is a receptacle for a daemonic spirit left over from the grid wars. Unfortunately for the rest of the society, his main skill is concealing this, and his main power is his exceptional charisma. He does not register on variant detectors, and is not required to attend all those boring classes about ethics and morality.
While the rest of the society is generally good, they are also somewhat vulnerable to Syrynx's superhuman presence. His plans never seem to be illegal (unethical maybe, but never illegal), and only one suggestion he makes out of 10 actually advances one of his plots. Syrynx cares nothing for his Society, or even for a re-opening of the grid. His only goal is personal power, though he is not averse to getting vengeance on those who have thwarted him, knowingly or otherwise.
His first plan involved animating and possessing the corpse of the high Delta class variant Genocide. Genocide was a key member of the White America movement, but died fighting for Earth during the Plovian Invasion, earning himself a respectable burial in the Harborview suburb that was his childhood home (but was never a victim of his violent racist activities). This plot was stopped moments before completion by Section Eight and Machiavelli (to whom the danger was explained mid-fight). Syrynx would attempt this again, but it can only be performed on Halloween and his copy of the spell was destroyed to allay suspicion.
Syrynx has since started making deals with a different sort of devil, and is offering his "team's" support to Baron Mind and the Firstborn in exchange for Grave's assistance in re-acquiring the lost spell. The final outcome of this unholy alliance is unknown.

Syrynx
A sorcerer and mystic whose meager initial powers were vastly augmented though his possession by a Daemonic entity at the end of the Daemonwar. His main ability is his power of phenomenal charisma, though he has access to a number of ritualistic and elementalist spells.

Prophet
A variant whose powers focus around the creation of energy-negating fields, Greg Rothhauser uses them for personal protection, flight, and entrapment of his foes. The fields are ruby red in color, and negate any sound within them when they are fully closed. He is the one most swayed by Syrynx' powers, though not actually evil himself.

Rhiannon
Another low grade mystic, Sarah Wishnevsky is also a variant with extensive illusion casting abilities that directly affect her targets' perceptions. She recently made the foolish decision to become Syrynx's familiar, increasing her magical/druidic powers, but binding her to him.

Silverfool
Jeff MacDonald is an obvious variant, possessing a natural coating of super-conductive armor, in addition to his powers of weather manipulation. He can casually redirect most energy aimed at him to other targets, and aims lighting at opponents through himself. He is Rhiannon's lover, and she is possibly the only person whose touch he can feel.

Bluesjay
Jason Stango is a human/hummingbird crossbreed, with impressive guitar skills, high speed, highly controlled winged flight, and a personality like Alvin the Chipmunk on amphetamines. Highly, seriously manic, he is a master of aerial maneuverability, playing the Airwolf theme while dodging.

Machiavelli
A child of Greek immigrants, Arron Krsatos is also the receptacle for the spirit of the Shadamirian God Kyrne (God of Justice, War, and Vengeance). As such he is an Epsilon class variant, but is only beginning to scratch the surface of his powers. He is a tactical and combat master, and cannot be defeated by any mortal. No joke.

Lurch
Stephen Shipman is the only non-powered member of the Society. He is a genius weapon designer and computer programmer, but was least trusting of Syrynx. He left the active group right after the initial Genocide incident. Still close to Rhiannon and Silverfool, Lurch refuses to follow Syrynx's lead.
