Scott opened the door. The two women were climbing into the cab of the truck. I'm going to have to remonstrate this truck, he decided.
One of the two women said, "He's in trouble upstairs."
"We'll be in trouble down here," the other answered.
An arm extended from the cab and fired a heat ray at Scott. Broadcast energy; not something he could absorb. It just barely missed him as he turned to gas; he felt the heat passing through his substance, disarranging molecules as it went.
"Oh yeah, he can do that, can't he?"
"I could have told you that wasn't going to work."
"You would be the one with precognition?" he asked.
"Funny, you don't remember me," she replied, slamming the truck door. He heard a pneumatic whoosh of air.
The truck threw itself back out of the hole and began circling the building to where the others were.
"That's just not right," Scott observed, watching it go.
