A half dozen Alley Cats strutted into the jewelry store and simply opened fire. Screams and shattering glass filled the air, quickly joined by the wail of sirens. They grabbed the loot that was closest to hand and faded away.
Four blocks away, the scene repeated itself.
The cops approached the first store, weapons ready, and found the room empty of anything but bloodied civilians.
When they looked back, the Cats were standing on one of the squad cars. Another barrage of gunfire.
"Grab the guns out of the car! Set the bomb!" the Cats' squad leader ordered.
